World No. 5 Jessica Pegula unexpectedly ended her run at Wimbledon 2024.

In the second round, the American tennis player lost to China's Wang Xinyu, who is ranked 42nd in the world.

In the first set, Pegula allowed her opponent to convert a break point in the seventh game and lost 4-6. In the second set, Pegula was on the verge of defeat but managed to win in a tiebreak.

However, in the deciding set, Wang Xinyu left no chance for the 30-year-old American, winning 6-1.

For Wang Xinyu, this is her first career appearance in the third round of Wimbledon. Her next opponent will be Britain's Harriet Dart, who is ranked 100th in the WTA rankings.

It is also worth noting that for the young Chinese tennis player, this is the first career victory over a representative of the top-10 ranking.
