The Women's Euro 2025 kicks off today: who are the bookmakers' favorites?
Starting today and for the next two and a half weeks, Switzerland becomes the epicenter of European women's football as the 2025 European Championship gets underway. The Dailysports team has gathered all the essential information you need about the tournament.
Who is participating in the tournament?
Sixteen national teams will compete in the tournament. One secured automatic qualification—hosts Switzerland. Eight more teams booked direct spots via the group stage. The remaining seven clinched their places through the playoffs.
- Group A: Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Finland
- Group B: Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy
- Group C: Germany, Poland, Denmark, Sweden
- Group D: France, England, Wales, Netherlands
Wales and Poland are making their debuts at the Women's European Championship.
Who are the previous champions?
The Women's European Championship has long been the domain of Germany, who, including their predecessor West Germany (before 1990), have won eight out of the 14 continental showdowns.
However, the last time Die Nationalelf lifted the trophy was back in 2013. The two most recent tournaments were claimed by the host nations: the Netherlands in 2017 and England in 2022. The Lionesses are, in fact, the reigning champions of Europe.
Who do the bookmakers see as favorites?
Surprisingly, it's not England. The Lionesses are given odds of 5.00 to win, while Spain are the outright favorites with odds of 2.70. Germany are the third favorites at 5.50, with France (6.00) and Sweden (15.00) rounding out the top five.
The rank outsiders are Belgium (100), Finland (200), and the tournament debutants—Wales (250) and Poland (350).
