The 7th-ranked player in the world, Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic, has announced the passing of her grandfather.

"Thank you for everything, Grandpa. You were the best," Marketa wrote on her Instagram.

On the night of March 10, Vondrousova was scheduled to play her 3rd round match at the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells against Marta Kostyuk, but she withdrew from the competition. Reuters reported at that time that the Czech player had decided to withdraw from further participation.

Subsequently, Vondrousova withdrew from the super tournament in Miami, which will take place from March 19 to 31.

It's worth noting that Marketa is the reigning champion of Wimbledon 2023.
