The WBA (World Boxing Association) executive committee has voted in favor of creating a new weight class called "super-cruiserweight," as reported by Boxing Scene.

The association decided to establish a division between cruiserweight and heavyweight. Cruiserweight is up to 90.7 kg, and heavyweight is 90.7 kg and above. The WBA was involved in the idea of creating a weight category between them, which would include fighters weighing from 91.2 kg to 101.6 kg.

"The creation of a new weight class will mainly help avoid fights where fighters enter the ring with a significant weight difference, which sometimes happens in heavyweight, where the difference can be 9 kg or more," explained the WBA.

In 2020, the WBC has already created a "bridgerweight" class with a limit from 86.6 kg to 101.6 kg. The idea was to target larger boxers in the heavyweight division, such as Oleksandr Usyk and Deontay Wilder, neither of whom had competed in bridgerweight at that time. Currently, the title is held by Lukasz Luanowski (15-0, 14 KOs).

The rankings of the top 15 fighters in the new weight class will likely be announced during the WBA's annual convention scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida, from December 11 to 15. As of now, the IBF and WBO have not announced plans to create such a weight category.
