Tottenham managed to secure their first trophy in years this season—the UEFA Europa League—but that wasn’t enough to save their head coach.

Details: Tottenham have officially announced that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties.

Quote: "We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club. Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy," the statement read.

Despite the silverware, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League—right on the edge of the relegation zone. Across 38 matchweeks, the team collected 38 points and conceded more goals than they scored—64 to 65.

As previously reported, many consider Daniel Levy’s decision a mistake. At the very least, that’s the opinion of former Spurs defender Ramon Vega, who said that even entertaining the idea was a show of disrespect to the manager.

Reminder: This summer, the Spurs may bid farewell to their captain Son Heung-min, and if so, longstanding admirers of the South Korean star from Saudi Arabia could reignite their interest.
