The tension is at its peak. Fans tear apart Marseille's new logo
Marseille's new logo, officially unveiled this week, has sparked a fierce backlash among the club's supporters. During the Ligue 1 clash against Metz at the Vélodrome, fans made their anger towards the management loud and clear.
Before the opening whistle against Metz, the stands were draped with protest banners. Supporters didn't hold back their emotions: "Disgusting logo," "A logo that reflects your season — pure nonsense." The message couldn't have been clearer — the new crest fails to meet the expectations of the passionate Marseille faithful.
Former players have also joined the debate. Ex-Marseille defender Souleymane Diawara voiced his confusion over the disappearance of key elements in the club's iconography. In particular, he was outraged by the absence of the star that symbolizes their Champions League triumph.
The star is part of the club's DNA, its history. We won the Champions League, and now someone wants to erase that? It's absurd. The same goes for the club's motto — it should be everywhere,
To recap, the club promoted the new crest as a "bridge between the past and the future" and has already confirmed it will appear on the team's kits starting next season. However, not everyone in Marseille is ready to embrace the change.
