The European Super League won't be able to be launched under that name because such a trademark already exists.

As reported on the Danish Superliga website, they have registered the trademark "Superliga" in agreement with the European Union. Thus, the European tournament that several football giants intended to create would infringe upon the rights of the Danish Superliga if they were to use the registered brand.

"We are delighted that the EU body has agreed that the Superliga trademark in the European Union would undermine the value that Danish clubs have invested in the Superliga (the local championship). We have always been against the desire of big clubs to create a new European league.

We believe that there must be openness and qualification for international club competitions through national competitions. Football should not be an exclusive party for clubs that dare not participate in an open competition, so we are, of course, very pleased with this victory off the field," explained the league's executive director, Klaus Thomsen.

It's worth recalling that the European Court found FIFA and UEFA's actions against the creation of the Super League in 2021 unlawful and imposed sanctions on certain clubs.

DailySports recaps the entire main chronology of the conflict from the moment when the intention to create a tournament involving the best football clubs in Europe was officially announced.
