Former Arsenal, Chelsea, and England national team defender Ashley Cole has embarked on his first solo coaching journey. The 45-year-old specialist has agreed terms with Italian club Cesena, who play in Serie B.

The club announced the signing of a contract running until June 30, 2026, with an option for extension upon meeting certain conditions. This marks Cole’s debut as a head coach. Previously, Ashley was part of the coaching staffs at Everton and Chelsea, and also spent some time working with the England national team during Lee Carsley’s tenure. Since 2025, the former defender has served as an assistant with England’s U-21 squad.

It’s worth noting that Cesena currently sits eighth in the Serie B standings and occupies a playoff spot for promotion to Serie A. The club’s management is counting on the experience and football intelligence of the former defender to help the team take the next step forward.
