The South African forward Misses Al Ahly Training Due to Flu and Back Pain
Al Ahly sporting director Mohammad Ramadan has confirmed that forward Percy Tau missed the team’s training sessions over the past two days due to severe flu and back pain.
Tau is currently receiving treatment and is expected to rejoin team training on Friday, ahead of Al Ahly’s rescheduled CAF Champions League third-round match against Algeria’s CR Belouizdad on Sunday, December 22.
The 30-year-old South African last played for Al Ahly in a 6-5 penalty shootout loss to Pachuca of Mexico in the Intercontinental Cup 2024 semifinal. In the heated fight, Tau was able to convert his spot-kick.
Tau's contribution to Al Ahly has decreased this season; the forward now mostly plays as a substitute. He has two goals in 11 games in all competitions, both of which came on September 15 in a 3-0 CAF Champions League qualifying win over Gor Mahia of Kenya.
Tau’s current contract with the Cairo-based giants is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, raising questions about his long-term future at the club. For now, Al Ahly will be hoping for his swift recovery as they prepare for the crucial Champions League fixture.
