The Senegalese Football Federation pays tribute to Édouard Mendy following the announcement of his retirement from international football

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has decided to no longer represent Senegal on the international stage.

Édouard Mendy announced on Sunday 13 September that he was bringing his career with the Lions of Teranga to a close. He leaves the national team after 59 caps, crowned by a Africa Cup of Nations title. He also played in a second Africa Cup of Nations final with the Lions of Teranga on 18 January against Morocco.

Édouard Mendy also took part in the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups with the Senegalese national team. A career that the Senegalese Football Federation was keen to honour.

Édouard Mendy, your history with the Lions now belongs to that category. You have defended Senegal’s goal in the matches that mattered, and you have played a major part in making our first stars shine on the Lions’ shirt.
