"The right time has come to start a new chapter" - Leon Goretzka bids a heartfelt farewell to Bayern

All good things must come to an end.

Details: Today, on his Instagram page, 30-year-old Bayern Munich central midfielder Leon Goretzka published a post announcing that he will leave the club at the end of the season, bidding a warm farewell to the fans.

Goretzka believes it's time for a change and he wants to seize the opportunity:

“Dear fans, the past few days have been more turbulent than expected. At the same time, they brought clarity.”

“Although I am truly flattered by the interest from leading international clubs, I have made a clear decision that I want to stay at Bayern until the end of the season.”

"I'm part of a team where it's incredibly fun both on and off the pitch, and with a coach who has once again molded us into a true unit.

I feel a deep bond with this squad and the club. Our shared goal is to return to Marienplatz in May and celebrate the most important trophies together with you all.

At the same time, after constructive discussions, the club and I have agreed that our successful partnership will come to an end this summer.

As I’ve said before, for me, this is the right time to start a new chapter: both as a footballer and as a person. But there’s still a lot left to do before then.

Let’s give everything together to achieve maximum success this season and at the World Cup with Bayern and the national team! I’m looking forward to it! Thank you for your support! 2026! Mia san Mia." wrote Goretzka.

Leon Goretzka joined Bayern back in 2018 from Schalke as a free agent. Since then, he has played 492 matches for Munich, scoring 47 goals and providing 48 assists.

With Bayern, Goretzka has won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, claimed six Bundesliga titles, lifted the DFB-Pokal 32 times, and won the Supercup three times.

His current contract with Bayern expires this summer, and his transfer value is estimated by Transfermarkt at 15 million euros.
