The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, has submitted his resignation in order to run for a fourth term, according to ESPN.

Tebas has held his position since 2013, and his mandate was set to expire on December 23, making the sudden decision to resign unexpected for many.

"A few minutes ago, I submitted my resignation from the position of La Liga president before the end of my term, which was set to conclude on December 23. A new election process will open, in which I will present my candidacy.

Therefore, I will seek the support and trust of the clubs so that we can tackle the challenges ahead," wrote Javier on his social media.

According to sources, the 61-year-old is unlikely to face strong competition in the new elections, as he has the support of presidents from clubs in the first and second divisions of Spain. It is also noted that today, on November 22, a draw will take place to select the club members of the electoral commission.
