The Premier League refuses to postpone the start of the 2025/26 season
In the summer of 2025, the Club World Cup will be held in the United States, adding an extra burden on teams. As a result, Premier League clubs approached the league’s management with a request to postpone the start of the new season.
Details: According to The Telegraph, there will be no rescheduling of the 2025/26 season's start. Premier League chief football executive Tony Scholes stated that there is no reason to change the schedule for a tournament that was imposed on them.
Quote: “Why should we alter our competition when FIFA has imposed a tournament we do not agree with? The calendar is stretched to its limits. This has gone too far—we are doing everything possible to make the schedule as reasonable as possible in a situation that is not our fault and is incredibly difficult for us to manage,” said Tony Scholes.
However, the Premier League is still considering the possibility of scrapping second-leg matches in the EFL Cup semifinals.
Reminder: The 2025 Club World Cup will take place from June 15 to July 13 across 12 stadiums in the United States. Today, Adidas officially unveiled the official match ball for the 2025 Club World Cup.
