The Pharaohs Secure Top Spot in Group C Despite 1-1 Draw in AFCON 2025 Qualifiers

Egypt's winning streak in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers came to an end after they stumbled against Cape Verde on Friday.

The match between Egypt and Cape Verde ended in a 1-1 draw, in the fifth and penultimate round of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Egyptian national team had previously qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals, after winning the first 4 rounds.

The draw consolidates Egypt’s position atop Group C with 13 points, while Cape Verde remains in fourth place with four points, officially eliminated from the race for AFCON qualification.

Egypt will conclude their qualifying campaign by hosting Botswana on November 19, as they aim to finish the group stage unbeaten ahead of the Morocco-hosted finals scheduled for December 2025 to January 2026.
