Saint-Étienne right-back João Ferreira became the main villain of the match after failing to control his emotions following a red card. The 24-year-old's reaction was extremely emotional—and the consequences proved far more severe than the suspension itself, as reported by L'Équipe.
After picking up his second yellow card as early as the 26th minute of the clash against Boulogne-sur-Mer (0-1), the Portuguese defender stormed off to the dressing room in rage and punched a wall, breaking his right hand. The injury required surgical intervention.
According to the club, his recovery will take significantly longer than the suspension and could sideline him for over two months, effectively ending his season.
To add insult to injury, the defeat to Boulogne-sur-Mer proved to be the last straw for Saint-Étienne head coach Eirik Horneland, who was dismissed immediately after the match and replaced the very next day by Philippe Montanier.
