The veteran and leader of the Memphis basketball team, Marcus Smart, sustained an injury to the index finger of his right hand, as reported by The Athletic.

Sources indicate that the guard will be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to this injury. Smart's injury occurred in the third quarter of the game against the Dallas Mavericks, which Memphis won with a score of 120-103. Notably, this marks the second significant injury for the ten-year veteran in the season. Previously, he missed 17 games due to an injury to his left leg.

The 29-year-old Smart has been averaging 14.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game in 20 matches this season.

It is worth mentioning that another player on the team, Ja Morant, recently suffered a serious injury, a torn labrum, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Currently, Memphis holds the 13th position in the Western Conference with a record of 14-23. Their upcoming schedule includes three away games against the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and Golden State Warriors.
