Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna set a new world record in this athletics discipline.

At a tournament in Oklahoma, USA, the Lithuanian surpassed the previous record held by Jurgen Schult of Germany since 1986. He threw the discus 74.35 meters, exceeding Schult's achievement by 27 centimeters, which had stood for almost 38 years.

Interestingly, the third world record in discus throwing belongs to Mykolas's father, Virgilijus Alekna. In 2000, he threw the discus 73.88 meters.

Mykolas Alekna, 21, is a silver medalist at the 2022 World Championships and a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships.
