The veteran defender of Atlético Madrid, Cesar Azpilicueta, is set to extend his contract with the current club.

According to insider Fabrizio Romano, the 34-year-old Spaniard will remain in Madrid for at least the upcoming season. Both parties have already reached an agreement and will formalize the continuation of their collaboration officially in the near future.

Azpilicueta joined Los Colchoneros at the beginning of the season as a free agent, signing a contract until the summer of 2024. From 2012 to 2023, the Spaniard faithfully served Chelsea, with whom he won the English Premier League, the Champions League, and the Europa League.

In the current campaign, the defender has played 22 matches for the Madrid-based team across all competitions, providing one assist.

Atlético currently holds the fourth position in La Liga after 27 rounds, accumulating 55 points under the guidance of Diego Simeone.

Previously, it was reported that the Atlético defender could move to Barcelona as a free agent.
