The central defender of Borussia Dortmund, Mats Hummels, may bring his career to a close after the current season, as reported by Bild.

It has come to light that the legendary defender is contemplating retiring from football. Hummels is keen not to miss the opportune moment for this decision. Additionally, the veteran is being prompted to depart due to a lack of playing time recently. Throughout this season, he has featured in 29 matches for Borussia across all competitions. In the Bundesliga, the German defender has netted three goals.

Mats Hummels' current contract is set to expire at the end of the present season, coming to a close in the summer.

It's worth noting that in 2008, Hummels was loaned to Borussia Dortmund, as the young defender struggled to find a place in Bayern Munich's main squad. Under the stewardship of head coach Jürgen Klopp, Hummels swiftly became a key player for the "Yellow and Blacks."

However, in May 2016, Hummels did eventually sign a five-year contract with Bayern Munich. Three years later, on June 19, 2019, the German defender made his return to Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen is planning to leave the team in the summer, and the club is not going to prevent the departure of the 25-year-old Dutchman.
