The new head coach of Real Madrid, José Mourinho, whose appointment was officially announced not long ago, is actively assembling his backroom team.
Details: According to The Athletic, former German international midfielder Sami Khedira is close to making a comeback at the Santiago Bernabéu. The 39-year-old is expected to take up the role of assistant coach on Mourinho's staff. For Khedira, who ended his playing career in 2021, this will be his first significant experience in a senior coaching role. Previously, another Mourinho favorite—ex-Real defender Pepe—had been considered for this honor, but ultimately the choice fell to Khedira.
It is reported that the Portuguese tactician initially planned to bring trusted personnel to the Santiago Bernabéu—people capable of quickly establishing order in the Blancos' dressing room. According to the club's executives and coaching staff, a solid contingent of specialists will arrive in Madrid, including assistants João Tralhão and Pedro Machado, analyst Roberto Merellu, fitness coach António Dias, and goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos.
It's worth noting that Khedira previously played for Real under José Mourinho, making 126 appearances, scoring 8 goals, and providing 12 assists during his tenure.
Reminder: Real will sign Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella.
