The NBA basketball club, the Los Angeles Lakers, are planning a roster overhaul this upcoming summer and are prepared to part ways with one of their team leaders. According to ESPN insider Brian Windhorst, point guard D'Angelo Russell will become a free agent in the summer.

It is noted that the 28-year-old player currently has a two-year contract with the Lakers worth $36 million, with a player option for $18.7 million for the 2024/25 season. However, he plans to decline this option and seek a new team.

Interestingly, Russell had previously expressed a desire to stay with the Lakers. Additionally, Orlando has shown interest in him. In the current season, he has played 76 games in the regular NBA season, averaging 18.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. In the first round of the NBA playoffs, his team is trailing 0-3 in the series against the reigning champions, the Denver Nuggets.
