The governing body of Ivorian football has issued a statement in response to concerns raised by the situation.

According to reports, a man actively sought by the police opened fire on two people at ChristianaCare Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, on Tuesday 16 June. This incident took place near the location where the Ivory Coast national team is staying during the ongoing World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Following this event, the Ivorian Football Federation issued a statement to set the record straight. It confirmed that the Ivory Coast national team, known as the Elephants, had not been affected in any way.

“The Ivorian Football Federation wishes to reassure all supporters of the Elephants, the media and the general public following reports concerning an incident that took place on the afternoon of Tuesday 16 June 2026 at ChristianaCare’s Wilmington Hospital in the State of Delaware. The Ivorian Football Federation wishes to make it clear that the national team has not been affected in any way by this incident. It further confirms that the national team, its coaching staff and the entire delegation are staying in a secure environment and are continuing their activities as normal.”
