The Indian cricket team has appointed Gautam Gambhir as their new head coach, as reported by BBC.

He replaces former teammate Rahul Dravid, who resigned after his contract ended. Gambhir, aged 42, most recently coached the Kolkata Knight Riders, winning the Indian Premier League title in May.

"India is my identity, and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. It is a great honor for me to return, albeit in a different role. But my goal remains the same as always - to make every Indian proud," said Gambhir.

Gambhir debuted for India in 2003 and played over 10,000 matches across all formats before retiring in 2016. His first series in this role will be the upcoming Test tour to Sri Lanka later this month.

In Bridgetown, Barbados, the final match for the T20 World Cup title recently took place, which India won for the first time since 2007.
