Sheffield United has announced the resignation of their head coach, Paul Heckingbottom, as conveyed on the official club website.

In addition, his assistants, Stewart McColl and Mark Hudson, have also departed. The 46-year-old Heckingbottom had been in service with Sheffield since November 2021, during which time the club competed in the Championship. Within two seasons, he played a pivotal role in guiding the team's return to the Premier League.

Presently, in the ongoing season, Sheffield United occupies the bottom spot in the league standings, having amassed a mere five points from 14 matches.

Furthermore, Sheffield has disclosed the appointment of a new coach. Chris Wilder has assumed the role of the Blades' new manager. The 56-year-old Englishman has committed to a contract lasting until June 2025. Wilder previously managed Sheffield United from 2016 to 2021, elevating the team from League 1 to the Premier League. However, he was relieved of his duties when the team found itself at the bottom of the top division.

Sheffield United secured the championship of the English Football League in the seasons 1897-1898 and has not attained similar triumphs since. Additionally, the Blades claimed the title of the FA Cup champions on four occasions: in 1899, 1902, 1915, and 1925. In the years 1901 and 1936, the club reached the final of the Cup.
