The Hundred league plans to triple the salary ceiling
The new cricket league, The Hundred, continues to grow in popularity across the UK, and significant changes are on the horizon.
Details: According to plans from the ECB, which founded the tournament in 2021, franchises in The Hundred will soon be allowed to sign up to four overseas players, an increase from the current limit of three.
Additionally, clubs will have the ability to offer players multi-year contracts worth up to £300,000 per season, which is aimed at attracting top talent from around the globe.
At present, The Hundred has been successful in drawing star players to the women’s league, but not as much to the men’s. These changes are expected to shift that trend.
If the league votes in favor of these adjustments, franchises’ spending on player salaries could rise to 80%.
Reminder: It was also announced yesterday that an Indian company has acquired the English cricket club Hampshire.
