The Eredivisie Licensing Committee has imposed a severe penalty on the well-known club Vitesse for violations of Financial Fair Play rules.

The club's official website announced that Vitesse has been docked 18 points in the league table. However, the club will not appeal this decision as it risked losing its license altogether.

This means that after 30 rounds in the Eredivisie, Vitesse now has -1 point in the league table. It previously occupied the last place with 17 points.

Vitesse has regularly represented the Netherlands in European competitions. In the 2021/22 season, they reached the Round of 16 in the Conference League, where they were defeated by Roma.

Previously, Vitesse had a close relationship with Chelsea, which loaned many of its young players to the club. Notable players who played on loan for Vitesse include Mason Mount, Nemanja Matić, and Armando Broja from Chelsea, as well as Martin Ødegaard from Real Madrid.
