The French forward believes Mbappe needs to adapt to his new role at Madrid
Al Ettihad’s French striker Karim Benzema has spoken out about his compatriot Kylian Mbappe’s struggles at Real Madrid. Speaking on El Chiringuito TV, Benzema suggested that Mbappe’s case lies in adapting to the role of central striker, a position he is unfamiliar with compared to his natural left-back position
According to Benzema, the problem arises when Mbappe turns left, seeing Vinicius Junior already standing in the same position. He insisted that Mbappe does enjoy playing as a central forward.
Benzema also noted that Mbappe improved with France playing with experienced players such as Olivier Giroud. He believes Mbappe will change and improve over time, especially as Vinicius remains a fixture at left-back under coach Ancelotti.
Since joining Madrid, Mbappe has scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists, but his performances have been heavily criticised, especially after he went in for a heavy chance in the recent El Clasico defeat at Barcelona.
