Aston Villa, in Birmingham, hosted Lille in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinals. Aston Villa took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to a precise strike from Ollie Watkins.

For Watkins, this goal marked his 25th across all competitions in the current season, equalling the club's historical scoring record.

Previously, only the legendary Dwight Yorke had achieved the milestone of 25 goals for Aston Villa in a single season, during the 1995/96 campaign.

The 28-year-old Watkins joined Aston Villa from Brentford in 2020, with the Birmingham club paying around €35 million for his transfer.
