Former world number one Naomi Osaka exited the Masters tournament in Madrid at the 1/32 final stage.

The Japanese tennis player lost in three sets to Liudmila Samsonova, who currently holds the 17th position in the world rankings and represents no specific country in the tournament.

Osaka had no chance in the first set, losing decisively to her opponent. She conceded two games on her serve right at the start of the match and lost 2-6. However, in the second set, Osaka managed to convert three break points and win 6-4.

In the final set, it was unclear until the very end which player would advance to the next round. However, in the crucial moment, Osaka lost a game on her serve and allowed her opponent to win 7-5.

In the 1/16 finals, Samsonova will face American Madison Keys.
