The first sensation of the tournament. Finland loses to Germany at the World Junior Championship
On Tuesday, December 27, Finland competed against Germany in the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Finland was considered the clear favorite in the match, but it was they who conceded the first goal. In the sixth minute of the game, Veit Oswald put the Germans ahead. Although a few minutes later, Mannisto leveled the score. The first period concluded with a 1-1 tie.
The second period proved to be the most prolific, as the primary action unfolded within those 20 minutes. Initially, the Finns took the lead with Halttunen's goal, but within a minute, Gubner responded with an equalizer. A few seconds later, Finland scored again, with Samu Bau credited for the goal. Germany took exactly ten minutes to first equalize the score, and a minute and a half later, Oswald completed a brace, putting his team in the lead.
In the third period, Germany adopted a more defensive strategy and managed to withstand Finland's attacks. Consequently, Finland sensationally succumbs to Germany. After two tournament matches, the Finns have yet to earn any points (losing 2-5 to Canada in their first game).
