The finalist of last year's UEFA Champions League is eliminated in the Round of 16

Atlético Madrid hosted Inter in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg fixture on Wednesday, March 13th. The first leg ended in a 1-0 victory for the Italian side.

During the first half, the visitors took the lead with a goal from Darmian. The overall scoreline stood at 2-0 in favor of Inter, but Atlético quickly bounced back into the game, thanks to a goal from Antoine Griezmann. After the break, Inter adopted a more defensive stance, but still managed a few counterattacking opportunities, which ultimately went unconverted.

The "Mattress Makers" refused to relent. In the dying minutes of the game, Memphis Depay found space in the opponent's box and scored a goal, sending the match into extra time.

Extra time proceeded evenly, with no significant chances for either team. Both fans and players anticipated a series of post-match penalties.

In the penalty shootout, Atlético emerged victorious, with their goalkeeper Jan Oblak notably saving two shots, securing Atlético's place in the quarter-finals.
