Supporting midfielder Ruben Neves spent six years at Wolverhampton and was at one time team captain, but he moved to Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal for €55m in the summer of 2023. However, the Portuguese could stay in England.

As the player admitted in a conversation with O Jogo, Arsenal, among others, were interested in him:

"I was close to three clubs and it didn't happen, which frustrated me and helped me make my decision with the move to Al-Hilal. I don't want to name specifically but Barcelona was one of them and that's not a lie. The move was close, as was a move to Arsenal.

Then there was another club, the offers heated up and when the golden opportunity to move to Al-Hilal came up, I didn't hesitate to accept. I'm getting used to transfers not happening."

Ruben Neves has played 28 games for the Saudi club this season, scoring four goals and giving six assists.
