At the 2022 World Cup, Dutch striker Wout Weghorst was remembered for his double against Argentina, but age is taking its toll and after playing in the top leagues, he has returned home.

The 32-year-old striker has signed a contract with the Dutch football grandee Ajax, having moved from English Burnley. The contract is full-fledged, lasting until 2026. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Weghorst has appearances for clubs such as Wolfsburg, Besiktas, Hoffenheim on his record, while he spent the second half of the 2022/2023 season on loan at Manchester United.

Ajax announced the signing of the striker on the day of the second leg of the Europa League play-off round against Poland's Jagiellonia, but it remains to be seen if he will be able to help his new teammates.
