The ex-Manchester City defender denies rumors about a move to Real Madrid
The transfer of Aymeric Laporte to a Saudi Arabian club was talked about this summer, along with the transfers of Karim Benzema and Neymar. The rights to the footballer, who had previously played for Athletic Bilbao and Manchester City, were secured for €27.5 million by Al-Nassr, where the Spaniard joined forces with Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to the Spanish publication Marca, the defender was linked to Real Madrid after David Alaba's injury. However, the source indicates that the 29-year-old footballer found "stability" in Saudi Arabia and won't be leaving Al-Nassr, as the club's management isn't willing to part ways with their investment. Moreover, "Los Blancos" are reluctant to cover his significant expenses, considering that, as per Marca, the player's salary stands at £21 million per year. Additionally, his time in Saudi Arabia won't hinder Laporte's chances of returning to play for the Spanish national team.
Aymeric began his professional career at Athletic Bilbao and was bought by Manchester City in 2018 for €65 million. With City, he managed to secure twelve major trophies.
In the current season, the defender has played eighteen games, scoring one goal and providing one assist. According to Transfermarkt, the player's contract is valued at €25 million.
