The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has decided to end its contract with Brazilian coach Rogério Micale, who helped the U-20 national team qualify for the African U-20 Cup of Nations.

In a statement on Monday, Micale said he was told about the decision to terminate his contract. He had signed the deal in October, and it was supposed to last until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Micale explained that he agreed to lower the value of his contract because the EFA was facing money problems. He said, “I quickly agreed to help and cut the contract amount for 2025, but later the EFA asked for an even bigger reduction.”

Micale expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am deeply thankful to the EFA, the players, and the staff who worked with me over the past two and a half years. It was an honor to coach the Olympic team and reach the semifinals of the 2024 Games.”

Reflecting on his achievements, Micale added, “I leave behind the 2005 team, which qualified for the African U-20 Cup of Nations and is on track to qualify for the next Olympics. I also leave a legacy of young players who are now part of the senior national team or playing regularly for their clubs.”

The Brazilian coach concluded his statement with a heartfelt message to the Egyptian people: “You are the main reason I do not want this to be a goodbye but rather a ‘see you soon.’ I wish you all a blessed and successful 2025.”
