Negotiations between London’s Chelsea and Xabi Alonso’s representatives are progressing on a positive note.
Details: According to The Guardian, the squad considers the former Real Madrid and Bayer boss the perfect candidate to lead the club back to winning ways. Players are convinced the next manager needs to command unquestionable authority in the dressing room, and, thanks to his stellar playing career and coaching achievements, Alonso fits the bill perfectly.
Although no official agreement has been reached yet, Alonso is the front-runner on the board’s shortlist, which also features Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner.
The appointment process is expected to accelerate after the FA Cup final. Alonso, for his part, wants certain guarantees, including a say in transfer policy, and the club appears ready to accommodate him, acknowledging his high profile.
It’s worth noting that since leaving Real Madrid in January 2026, the Spaniard has remained without a club.
