The contenders for the Athlete of the Year in Europe are named. Who will compete for the award?
The season in athletics can be considered over. The big finals of the Diamond League have taken place, the winners of the Olympic Games have been decided, and the season can be summarised. This is what European Athletics wants to do by announcing the nominees for the title of Athlete and Athlete of the Year in Europe.
Among the men, the following will compete for the prestigious award:

- Carsten Varholm (Norway)
The following candidates have been nominated in the category ‘Track and Field Athlete of the Year’:
- Nadia Battocletti (Italy)
- Femke Bol (Netherlands)
- Sifan Hassan (Netherlands)
- Keeley Hodgkinson (Great Britain)
- Natalia Kaczmarek (Poland)
- Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine)
- Malaika Mihambo (Germany)
- Yemisi Ogunleye (Germany)
- Cyrena Samba-Mayela (France)
- Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium)
100% of the votes will be divided into four categories: public vote, member federations‘ vote, press vote and European Athletics experts’ vote. The results of the poll will be announced on 8-9 October.
Last year's European Athletes of the Year were Norway's Jakob Ingebrigsten and Femke Bol of the Netherlands, who were also voted Athletes of the Year in 2022.
