The comeback didn't work out. Maccabi beat Zorya again in the UEFA Conference League
In a rescheduled match of the third round of the UEFA Conference League group stage, Maccabi and Zorya faced off today.
Due to the war in Israel, the team from Tel Aviv hosted their opponents in Serbia. The hosts were considered favorites before the match and started accordingly. Dangerous moments were rare, but Maccabi controlled possession. Midway through the game, the match leveled a bit, yet the Israelis managed to open the score just before halftime. Eran Zahavi scored with a precise strike.
At the start of the second half, Perez doubled the advantage for the hosts. Later, the midfielder completed a brace, while Zorya responded with a goal from Guerrero. Just before the final whistle, Igor Gorbach set the final score on the scoreboard.
Maccabi - Zorya - 3:2
Zahavi 45+2, Perez 47, 60 - Guerrero 71, Gorbach 88.
After this match, Maccabi remains in second place in the group, while Zorya sits third. There is now a five-point gap between the teams, making it almost impossible for the Ukrainian side to hope for qualification to the playoffs.
