Former head coach of the Portuguese national team, Fernando Santos, quickly found a new job for himself.

The experienced Portuguese manager has been officially appointed as the head coach of modest Azerbaijan. His contract runs until the summer of 2026.

Interestingly, back in January 2022, Santos coached the Portuguese national team at the 2022 World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals but were surprisingly defeated by Morocco.

After that, Santos coached the Polish national team, with whom he only lasted for 6 matches, losing to the Czech Republic, Moldova, and Albania.

Santos also had a short stint at Beşiktaş, from where he was dismissed after 16 matches.

In the Euro 2024 qualifiers, the Azerbaijan national team finished fourth in their group, falling behind Belgium, Austria, and Sweden.
