Yesterday marked the second matchday of the new Premier League season. One of the standout fixtures was Everton's clash with Brighton in Liverpool. The visitors dominated, winning 3-0, but the match was notable for more than just the scoreline.

We previously reported that Brighton's veteran, James Milner, set a new league record by becoming the first player to feature in 23 Premier League seasons.

However, another milestone involving Milner made headlines. For the first time in Premier League history, a player was older than his manager by seven years. To be precise, Milner was seven years and 53 days older than Brighton's head coach, Fabian Hürzeler, as reported by Opta.

Milner is now in his second season with Brighton, having joined the Seagulls as a free agent from Liverpool in 2023. Fabian Hürzeler took charge of the team this summer, previously managing German side St. Pauli.

Milner is also on the brink of another historic achievement. If he makes 21 more Premier League appearances, he will surpass Gareth Barry for the most matches played in the top flight of English football. Milner currently has 633 appearances, while Barry holds the record with 653.
