Thiago Alcântara, who recently announced his retirement from professional football, has quickly found a new position.
Today, the former midfielder officially joined Hansi Flick's coaching staff at Barcelona. However, this is currently a temporary arrangement.
Alcântara will be working with Barcelona's coaching staff as part of a coaching internship until the end of the summer. He will also join the team on their preseason tour in the United States. Only after this period will the club decide whether to offer Alcântara a full-time contract.
Alcântara is a product of Barcelona's academy but played for the club's first team for only three seasons before moving to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 at the behest of former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola. He spent the last four years of his career at Liverpool.
It's worth noting that Alcântara was a key player for Bayern Munich during Hansi Flick's tenure as head coach. It is expected that Alcântara will assist the German coach in adapting to the Catalan club.
