The Ballon d’Or is one of football’s most iconic individual awards and is traditionally presented each year in Paris. However, changes are coming next year.

Details: According to official information from the organisers, the next Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held in London. The decision has been made to honour English football legend Stanley Matthews, who became the first-ever Ballon d’Or winner 70 years ago.

Stanley Matthews is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of English football and became the first footballer ever to receive a knighthood. He was renowned for his gentlemanly conduct on and off the pitch.

Matthews played more than 700 matches during his career without receiving a single booking. He was also inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame.

The current Ballon d’Or holder is Ousmane Dembélé. The record holder for the most awards remains Argentine forward Lionel Messi, who has won the honour eight times.
