The reason for this move is the alleged interference of Nepal's National Sports Council in the electoral process of the national federation, which violates FIFA's requirements for the independence of football organizations. The decision was made by the FIFA Council Bureau and will later need to be ratified at the organization's Council meeting.

As a result of the disqualification, the Nepal Football Association loses all rights as a FIFA member. The country's national teams and clubs are barred from participating in tournaments under FIFA's umbrella, and federation representatives temporarily lose the right to take part in FIFA Congress activities.
