Mamadou Sakho's eventful and vibrant career has come to an end.

Details: Ahead of yesterday’s derby between PSG and Paris FC, the 35-year-old French defender Mamadou Sakho officially announced his retirement from professional football.

Sakho is a product of Paris FC’s youth system, but he rose to prominence playing for PSG, joining their senior squad in 2005 after coming through the academy.

Sakho’s career later took him to Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Montpellier, and finally the Georgian side Torpedo Kutaisi, which he left in the summer of 2025. For the past six months, Sakho had been a free agent but ultimately chose not to continue his playing career.

At club level, Sakho made 437 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 5 assists. He also earned 29 caps for the French national team, netting 2 goals.
