For the Toffees' faithful, this news hits especially hard, as Coleman is a true Everton icon, having spent more than 17 years at the club.
Coleman joined Everton back in 2009 from Sligo Rovers for just €70,000 and has since made 433 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 28 goals and providing 29 assists.
The next step in Coleman's career is up to him: he has an offer from Everton to stay within the club's structure as a youth team coach, or the Irishman could choose to join another club and continue his playing career.
