Canada national team midfielder Ismaël Koné will miss the remainder of the 2026 World Cup after suffering a severe injury in the match against Qatar.
Details: The 24-year-old midfielder sustained a fracture to his left leg during the second round of the 2026 World Cup, where Canada routed Qatar 6-0.
The incident occurred in the 51st minute of the match. Koné took a hit from behind by Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo and was unable to continue.
The Sassuolo player was stretchered off the field and taken to the hospital, where he was given an oxygen tank as part of the emergency treatment.
The Canadian Football Association reported that Koné underwent successful surgery after the leg fracture. While a full recovery is expected, he will not feature again in this tournament.
According to preliminary reports, his recovery could take 4–5 months.
