The conflict between player and club is reaching a new level.
Details: The ongoing standoff between 33-year-old goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen and Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick could result in the collapse of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman’s transfer.
The crux of the matter is that both Lookman and ter Stegen are represented by the same German scouting agency, ROOF. This gives the German shot-stopper considerable influence over the agency’s transfer policy, which could directly impact Ademola’s potential move to the Catalan giants.
Earlier, ter Stegen demanded early payment of his salary under a contract running until 2028, but the club refused to meet his request, further straining relations between the two parties.
Ter Stegen joined Barcelona back in 2014 from Borussia Mönchengladbach for €12 million. Since then, he has played 422 matches for the Catalans and was the undisputed number one until the dispute with head coach Hansi Flick erupted.
The German goalkeeper’s future remains uncertain, as the club has made it clear that ter Stegen will not see any playing time.
Reminder: Barcelona wants to part ways with ter Stegen. Inter are already preparing an offer.
