An outrageous act of xenophobia unfolded at Dallas International Airport, where a group of Iraqi football fans was making a layover en route to Mexico.

Details: According to AStv, the fans were traveling to Monterrey for the decisive 2026 World Cup playoff between Iraq and Bolivia. The situation escalated into a scandal when an American citizen aggressively confronted the Iraqis, who had unfurled their national flag and banners in support of their team.

It is reported that the American approached the fans, started hitting their banners, and shouted the slogan:

“This is America!”

Although the altercation did not escalate into a full-blown brawl, video of the incident quickly went viral, sparking outrage. Eyewitnesses noted that the Iraqi fans behaved peacefully, merely showing support for their national team ahead of a crucial World Cup qualifier, but were nonetheless met with unjustified aggression.

This episode once again highlights the growing tension and intolerance in the US ahead of the home World Cup.

Reminder: Iraq might boycott the World Cup in the US even after qualifying through the playoffs.
