In their opening match of the tournament, which kicked off this Saturday in Poland, the Tanzanian women were unable to keep up with the Brazilians.

Tanzania’s U20 women’s team began their FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign with a defeat. In their opening Group B match, Tanzania faced Brazil at the Bielsko-Biała Stadium.

However, the match ended in a heavy 4-1 defeat for the Tanzanians. The Brazilians took the lead as early as the 24th minute, opening the scoring at 1-0. Tanzania did, however, manage to level the score before half-time. Winfrida Gerald equalised in the 44th minute to bring the score to 1-1.

But the second half proved disastrous for Tanzania. The Brazilians struck hard, scoring three goals to seal their 4-1 victory.

In their first-ever appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Tanzania have thus begun with a defeat. The Tanzanian women will have no room for error on the second matchday of Group B if they are to hope of progressing to the next round.
