Caviezel was performing a downhill run when, just 50 seconds into his race, he fell after losing one of his skis. He slid down the slope and remained lying on the track. Emergency responders decided to airlift him to a hospital, and the race was subsequently halted.
This incident marks the third time in two days that a skier has required medical assistance during competitions in Bormio, Italy. Notably, this course is set to be used for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Unsurprisingly, these incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety of the track and its suitability for hosting major events like the Olympics. Athletes have criticized the course, calling it poorly prepared and dangerous, and have suggested it is unfit for Olympic competition.
